Energy Star Guideline Series to help
you save on your energy bills!

For the next several issues of Alabama Living and here,online, at http://www.tombigbee.net, we will have a growing list of proactive incentives for you to save on your energy bills. This proactive program is self-motivated and its success depends upon your commitment. It is our job to try and bring you quality electricity at the lowest price that we can, but it is up to you, the consumer, to help achieve the goals that these articles set forth. Remember that it may take several months, or even a couple of years, to create a more energy efficient Energy Star home. But, with time and persistenence, you can see a change in your utility bills and have more expendible income for you and your family!

As we’ve stated before in the pages of this magazine, a drafty home, rooms that are too hot or too cold, and high energy bills are all common issues for homeowners. A quality installation of a new heating or air conditioning system, buying replacement windows, or adding more insulation may fix part of the problem, but the way to better results is through an integrated “whole-house” approach that looks at your entire home as a system.

Home Performance with ENERGY STAR, a national program from the U.S. EPA and U.S. DOE, offers a comprehensive, whole-house approach to improving energy efficiency and comfort at home, while helping to protect the environment. You can read more about this at http://www.energystar.gov.

By following these suggestions, you can Assess your Home’s Performance and Set Goals. You can Create a Plan of Action and Implement that Plan. You can Evaluate the Progress of Your Plan and Re-Assess Your Plan, if necessary. Remember to get your whole family involved and don’t forget to Recognize Your Achievements!
